Monkey Island in Bray, the newly refurbished hotel, which is not yet open to the public, was the setting for over 100 BCF supporters to celebrate International Women’s Day. The event raised almost £9,000 for BCF’s new Together for Women Fund.
Violence against women and girls, including modern slavery is a huge issue in Berkshire. BCF’s Together for Women Fund enables BCF to support disadvantaged women and girls in our communities. Working together to combat a number of key issues affecting people in the county, which include modern slavery, exploitation, domestic violence and abuse, sexual assault and social isolation. This fund will support the lifesaving work that is supporting women and girls across the county.
Guests were welcomed by BCF Chief Executive Gerry Lejeune OBE; who announced the launch of the new fund. Guests were inspired by speeches from Nicola Bell and April McCoig, who are working on the frontline to tackle modern slavery in Berkshire and were moved by a poem written by Clare Bevan called Invisible Whips.
