Students act as witnesses, defendants and a whole legal team in a court setting with legal professionals for advice. We were delighted to attend the event on 17th March, there was fierce competition with all 8 teams giving impressive well-rehearsed performances and really doing their schools proud. At the end of each round the legal professionals presiding over the competition would give feedback to the teams which really helped the students to improve their public speaking skills and gave a great insight into how a court would usually work. Overall this competition gave invaluable experience in public speaking to all the students who participated and possibly even a new view on careers in the legal profession.
“I was a witness and I really enjoyed learning my script to be asked questions about it by the opposite half of our team’s lawyer. She was very good at being intimidating and thinking on her feet so I had to really up my game to match her skills. I think I rose to the challenge and I think that this experience has been great for my public speaking and my confidence as I am not naturally a particularly outgoing person but the others on the team are. Overall, this has been great fun and I have thoroughly enjoyed it”
