Family Friends support local families when life becomes tough, preventing issues from escalating. Their support is free, confidential and practical. Their vision is that local families are able to thrive while their children are growing up however tough the challenges they face. They provide 1:1 and group support for parents and children as well as volunteer help in the home when parents are struggling to cope.

A grant of £5,000 for the Growing Up Well project has allowed children and families to benefit from having support tailored to their specific needs. Positive changes in wellbeing were experienced by the beneficiaries who were supported through these activities. 22 children received 1:1 support, with 21 of them showing improved emotional wellbeing in relation to self-esteem, behaviour and isolation. 7 parents attended a pre-teen parenting course which led to improvements in their child’s behaviour, their confidence in parenting, communication with their child as well as other issues including the child’s anger and sibling relationships. The salt jar (see photo) is one method that was used to help the children.

“It has helped the way I think about my dad, how I feel about myself in the situation. It has also helped me being able to talk freely about my feelings and situation. I liked how I always felt safe and didn’t have to push myself.”
