- The Electric Eels Swimming & Synchro club for people with Down’s Syndrome – Teaching young people to swim and perform synchronised swimming elements and providing opportunities to compete.
- Swallowfield Horticultural Society – Promoting gardening and organising events for the benefit of the community and local charities.
- The Wayz Youth Centre – Providing services and support to young people and adults to enable them to volunteer within their local community.
This is a huge honour to recognise the amazing work of these three organisations. The Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service is the highest award given to local volunteer groups across the UK to recognise outstanding work done in their own communities. It was created in 2002 to celebrate the anniversary of The Queen’s coronation. It is the MBE for volunteer groups.
Any group doing volunteer work that provides a social, economic or environmental service to the local community can be nominated for the award. Each group is assessed on the benefit it brings to the local community and its standing within that community.
Congratulations from everyone at BCF to everyone involved with these awesome groups on your very well deserved win!
