Working in partnership with a wide range of charities and organisations, the shelter will provide the most needy adults in the town with a safe place to sleep, food, warmth, washing and clothing, for four months this winter.
On Saturday 16th December, the Bracknell & Wokingham Neighbourhood and Stronghold Team visited the night shelter to offer support to those using the service. The officers had a very warm welcome from volunteers and service users alike, and they intend to visit regularly throughout the period that the shelters are open to continue to build a relationship with them.
The team were able to leave those using the shelter with some warm hats and bags which went down very well. They felt very grateful that the service users were happy to share a cuppa with the officers and talk about their situation and experiences. There is often a misconception that the Police are just interested in criminalising the homeless, however their aim is to work with their partner agencies and the amazing volunteers to support and safeguard these very vulnerable members of the community.
