How our Coronavirus Fund helped the charity support families through lockdown
A grant of £5,000 from our Vital for Berkshire – Coronavirus Fund helped Dingley’s Promise improve families’ mental and emotional wellbeing through the UK’s first lockdown.
Between April and June 2020, Berkshire Community Foundation made over £1 million in grants funding to almost 200 community projects across Berkshire, supporting more than 75,000 people across Berkshire.
These were made as part of the Vital for Berkshire – Coronavirus Fund – aiming to help charities and community groups address the urgent issues and needs arising from the first lockdown. Find out more in our Vital for Berkshire – Coronavirus Report.
One of these groups was Dingley’s Promise, a Berkshire-based charity which works to deliver life-changing support to families with young children under 5, particularly those with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND).
Statistics indicate that during lockdown, three in four (78%) families were more stressed, two in five (42%) families reported a decline in mental health, and half (50%) of all children were experiencing worsened emotional health.
Aided by grant funding from BCF, Dingley’s Promise was able to offer:
The charity has also developed and launched a new training module ‘An Introduction to Early Years Inclusive Practice’, offered free of charge to interested parties. The new course aims to ensure that children with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) are included in the mainstream wherever possible. Over 670 participants from across the UK have already signed up.
