BCF announces new Chair of Trustees and Vice President

Berkshire, UK (27 April 2021) – Berkshire Community Foundation (BCF) has made two new senior leadership appointments.

Stephen Howard (pictured above) has been appointed as the new Chair of the Board of Trustees. After qualifying as a solicitor, Stephen has spent over 30 years working as a corporate financier in the City. He previously served as a member of the Helpline board for the NSPCC for 10 years, before joining BCF as a Trustee in 2017.

Stephen said: “I’m honoured to have been appointed as the new Chair of Berkshire Community Foundation, which plays a vital role in connecting caring people and businesses with important local causes. This has never been more visible than in the past year, in which BCF provided a lifeline for community groups and projects through £3.2 million in grants.”

He continued: “I look forward to building on the success of the organisation, by continuing to engage meaningfully with donors to secure crucial support for local projects, as we move forward together through the pandemic and beyond.”

Stephen takes over from Chris Dodson OBE DL. Having served as Chair of Trustees since 2017, Chris has accepted a position as Vice President of BCF.

James Puxley, Lord Lieutenant of Berkshire and the President of Berkshire Community Foundation, said: “The year 2021 brings new challenges and changes to Berkshire, and I am confident BCF will yet again play a central role in helping local communities meet these head-on. I would like to thank Chris Dodson for his outstanding leadership over the past 5 years and am delighted he will continue his association with BCF as Vice President.  I also extend a very warm welcome to Stephen Howard, the incoming Chair, who I know will bring new ideas and initiatives to the role.”

Chris said: “Over the past few years I have seen the Foundation grow and thrive in so many ways. It is with pride that I look back on these years as Chair while looking forward to remaining part of such a successful organisation in the honorary role of Vice President. I wish Stephen, the trustees, staff and volunteers all the very best for the challenges ahead. I know they will continue to be a leading force for good across Berkshire.”
